Moving on to Leamington

My grandmother grew up in Leamington, moving to Woodslee when she became a teacher in her late teens. Before that, she’d taught on Pelee Island.

She published a book called “Memories of Lake Erie Shores” in 1984, at the request of her cousin Lena Robson. Lena’s brother Earl was quite a writer, and Lena asked Grandma to publish his stories. That’s what she did, also including some of her own memories of Leamington.

Earl was a very colourful writer and turned out some beautiful prose and poetry. In upcoming weeks, I’ll be publishing some excerpts — “The Saga of Captain Nelse Malott”, one of Leamington’s most distinguished ship’s captains. Stories of those infamous Lake Erie storms, an article about the first bus in Leamington (which was drawn by horses).

There is lots there .. for now, I thought I’d set the scene by referring you to another article about Leamington history, courtesy of Earline Brandt’s excellent website Ancestral Notes.
